All about this dog…

Xaria

Xaria is a beautiful, kind and inquisitive dog who has adjusted well to home life in the UK and is now looking for her forever home. A gentle and affectionate soul, she is always eager to please, offer a paw or roll over for a belly rub, and loves nothing more than meeting new people and dogs, all of whom are greeted with a wagging tail and friendly smile. On her arrival, she was understandably anxious and was easily spooked by all of the new sights and sounds around the house, but was immediately very trusting and would submissively seek out human company for reassurance. She bonded incredibly quickly, and over the last couple of months her confidence has blossomed and she’s come on leaps and bounds as she explores and gets used to a home environment and hops into the boot of the car without issue. She’s still getting used to slippery wooden flooring and has shown little interest in stairs, but she’s calm and relaxed, and is as happy playing with her toys as she is snoozing on the sofa or in her bed. She does thoroughly enjoy bringing her toys outside for a solo game of fetch, so would appreciate secure, outside space within which to play and explore. Out of the house, she walks very well on the lead, with her hound background meaning that she enjoys following her nose for parts of a walk, so will want to stop and sniff along the way. She’s not had any formal recall training yet, but does respond to her name. With her walking schedule, she’s been getting used to a variety of different settings, from fields and woodlands, to housing estates and near busy roads, and has been non-reactive to cars, bikes or people passing from the start. Xaria is extremely friendly and eager to sniff and greet everyone she meets along the way. She is very playful with other dogs and loves nothing more than bouncing around with any new furry friends she meets, and as she spent time in a communal setting with other dogs, would do well with another dog in her life as company. Given her beautiful appearance, she’s a real crowd pleaser with people too, greeting strangers with a smile and wagging tail, and making the most of the ensuing fuss she receives. In terms of training, she is an exceptionally clean dog and has had zero accidents in the time we have cared for her, presumably dating back to her time in the pound. She stands by the backdoor when she needs to go, but will hold on for hours and sometimes needs encouragement to go! She doesn’t appear to have any separation anxiety, settles very quickly at night and has been left alone for up to 4-hours at a time, with her snuffle mats and search and find toys, without any issues. Xaria is very food orientated, which is a great help during training, and she has been working on sitting, resource guarding, swapping out toys, scent, using noise boxes and moving between people as the precursor to working on her recall outside. She’s also been learning to play with people too – gentle games of tug etc. as she’s not used to having a human playmate. She really enjoys taking part in the training sessions and is keen to gain the praise, fuss and food she receives as rewards – but do avoid cooked chicken as this upsets her stomach. She has not received any crate training to date. While Xaria is good with small children outside on her walks, they can make her anxious and nervous within the confines of the home and so she needs a quieter household with older or grown-up kids instead. She hasn’t been tested with cats – she shows an interest and likes to stop and stare at them on a walk, but hasn’t met one inside before. Equally, she’s not been tested with small furry animals either. Xaria is the most beautiful, trusting and kind-hearted young girl, who would be the perfect companion for a family with older children and, if possible, another dog too. Just be prepared for other people to want to come and make a fuss over her too, as she’ll melt their hearts as well as yours.
