Foster a Dog

Could you foster a dog and be a step in the dogs journey to their forever home?
Fostering a dog is extremely rewarding and allows us to assess the dog in a home environment before placing them with their best matched forever home.
We have several dogs in kennels in the UK, as well as many more waiting in shelters in Cyprus. Not only does that cost the rescue money but it also means the dogs are still not in a loving home. Providing a foster home will allow a dog to adjust to living a home before it is placed in it’s forever home.
Fostering is temporary but we also cannot guarantee how long the dog will be in your care in foster before moving to its forever home. Some of our dogs find their forever homes within a few weeks, but for some this could be longer based on their specific needs, the dog’s physical health and history.
Fostering can seem like the dog is moved on again and people worry that the dog will feel like they’ve been abandoned again. It can also be hard for Fosterers to say goodbye to their foster dog that they have cared for and loved. But fostering gives a dog a great head start and prepares them for a new life in a permanent home, with the chance of success being far greater. Fostering is the real lifeline that some dogs need and without fosterers stepping up they would remain in kennels and shelters and never get their chance to find a loving home.
What we expect from our fosterers:
- A secure garden with 6 foot fencing, depending on the dog you are fostering this can be discussed.
- Time available to settle the dog and assess it.
- We will need you to provide us with some photos and updates about the dog to promote them for adoption.
- You must be happy to meet with your foster dog with potential adopters.
- We will need to see a form of Photo Id and to carry out a home check.
- If you have cats in your home we would place dogs with you who have been tested with cats.
- If you have children at home we would place dogs with you who have been around children. We would prefer children living in the foster home to be over the age of 5 years, but we are happy to discuss this.
- If you have dogs in your home then your resident dogs will shape what dog is put forward for you to foster.
- You can still foster if you do not have a resident dog.
- Fosterers are more than welcome to go on to adopt their foster dog, the adoption fee is usually £470.
What you can expect from the charity:
- Cover any vet bills incurred while the dog is with you
- Promote the dog while it is in your care
- Be there for support as and when you need it
