🐾 Meet Sammy Sammy arrived in the UK from Cyprus in December 2025 aged just 6 months. Having never lived in a home or had any previous training, he has made fantastic progress and is enjoying learning about the world. Living with Sammy Sammy is an extremely intelligent, handsome, loving, playful dog full of character who gets compliments everywhere he goes. He has adapted very well to domestic life and is fully house trained. He sleeps well through the night and, once settled into the home, can be left for a good amount of time with no known separation anxiety. When his humans are home, he will greet them with full body excitement and an enthusiastic helicopter tail, ready to get involved with whatever is going on. He loves head massages and butt scratches, and is happy being handled and groomed, including tooth brushing and nail clipping. Like many young, driven dogs, Sammy can struggle to settle when he hasn't had enough mental stimulation and may look to find his own entertainment to fulfil this need (like digging or stealing the occasional shoe). As such, it’s important that he has consistent boundaries, positive outlets and engaging activities to counter this. He has spent time with children from age 6+ with no issues, so would be able to join a family unit, although, due to his size and energy, dog-confident or older children would be preferred. He could also potentially live with another dog following suitable introductions. He is food motivated and has shown no food aggression or resource guarding, making him a very rewarding dog to train. He already knows a wide range of commands and tricks, including sit, down, paw, spin, touch, bang (play dead), back, front, middle, stay, chin (for grooming), under, up, bed/place, stay, release, but would love to learn more! He also waits nicely at doors and for his food. Some of his favourite things include; playing with sticks and balls, tugging and ‘find it’ games, chomping water from the hose, stretching his legs with zoomies, splashing around in streams, snacking on eggs, and relaxing in the garden watching the birds. Out and about with Sammy Sammy loves being outdoors and active, and travels brilliantly in the car to find new places to explore with his humans. He currently lives in the Oxfordshire countryside and has been introduced to a range of rural settings, including farmland, fields and stables, with exposure to machinery, cows, horses and sheep. He has visited cafés, laying quietly whilst his humans enjoy a coffee and cake, but can become overwhelmed in busy towns. Sammy walks well on the lead and is making good progress with loose-lead walking and heel work. He is very social and playful with other dogs and has played with Dachshunds and Labradors alike. Due to his age, his enthusiasm can sometimes get the better of him when he sees people or dogs that he wants to greet or play with, and may pull strongly to say hello, but he responds well to training and guidance and continued work on calm greetings and impulse control will help him mature with this. His recall is a work in progress but is improving all the time and is good in controlled environments. He will need continued training to develop neutrality and manage his natural prey drive instincts around wildlife but has been happily walking on a long line whilst his recall becomes 100% reliable. What Sammy needs Sammy has enormous potential and will be a loyal companion for the right person(s). He would love: • An experienced home with understanding of high-drive, working/shepherd breeds. • An owner or family that want to build a real partnership with him and involve him in everyday life. • Ideally a calm, rural home with plenty of space, a large, secure garden and opportunities for outdoor activity. • Someone happy to continue his ongoing training and development long-term, not limited to confidence building, socialisation, calm greetings, impulse control, prey drive management and recall. • More than physical exercise only. He thrives on mental stimulation, learning, problem-solving and having a job and sense of purpose. • Agility, scent work, herding or similar dog sports and activities could be excellent outlets to allow him to use his intelligence and natural working instincts.
