Nelson, retriever/golden lab cross. 3 years old. Nelson is generally a lovely dog. He loves people he knows, he's a happy dog, walks great on the leash. However, in his kennel he is very unhappy. He does not like being confined to a cage - who can blame him? He has tried very hard to get out of the kennel, so his new home will need a secure garden, although we doubt he would want to escape a loving home. Given his stress levels in the kennel, and him being great on the leash, we think he likely had a home before. He was found as a stray in June and when he first arrived he did not like being touched on his neck, but now he feels safe and knows the staff he is fine. These are signs that he was not treated well in the past, and he needs to find a home that shows him humans aren’t all bad and that he deserves a loving and safe home. In typical lab spirit, Nelson absolutely loves treats. So he will be a delight to train. He would be best homed with female dogs or as an only dog. We say this because he can sometimes be picky with male dogs (however this can also be a result of the shelter environment). With his initial issues of being touched on the neck, he would also rather an adult only home.
