After our last post for Dylan we actually realised that he is now the shelters longest resident. Since January 2023 this poor boy has been in a cage. This is through no fault of his own, other than him not being a dog that is typically sought after - not small, fluffy, or cute enough. Admittedly we have also been late to getting Dylan advertised, not realising just how long he has been cooped up. Dylan is approx 3.5 years old, which means he has been in the shelter since he was just a young boy. He is not one of those dogs that tolerates the shelter. He is stressed, paces his kennel, and has tried his best to escape the misery of a cage with minimal human interaction. This has made Dylan quite nervous. He has not experienced life as a dog should do, and currently he does not like being handled at the vets and is fearful when you reach over his head. But, he is a friendly boy with strangers and loving with people he knows. He gets very excited when you approach his kennel, delighted that he is getting some attention. Dylan will need an experienced and patient home with ongoing basic training. Given his length in the shelter, we expect he may need that extra special home to help him understand the world and know that he can be loved, and that he more than deserves it. A home environment may be very alien to him and he will need time to decompress. He could live with a resident dog, but only females, as in his current environment he does not like males (which find this can be a result of the shelter situation, but of course we have to be cautious as this is what we currently know about him). We want Dylan homed in an adult only household due to his length in the shelter and nervousness being handled. Dylan would love an active home that can take him for exciting walks. Maybe a nice garden to run around in. He’s a strong boy and needs some leash training. Finally, Dylan will need a secure garden and generally just a home to call his own. We say this all the time with shelter dogs - they convey a gratefulness when you are lucky enough to have them as a companion. They know you have saved them and have given them that second chance. And they will be thankful forever. He can be adopted in Cyprus or the UK. We will also consider foster or foster view to adopt for a home willing to help Dylan settle into normality and have a new start in life. He is ready to fly. He is vaccinated and has had a full health check and blood tests for infectious diseases.
